Responsibilities of the Governing Body in Pupil Discipline

Event description This session will discuss the responsibility of the Governing Body discipline Panel in reviewing pupil exclusions and what best practice looks like so that the governing body is not left vulnerable. Whilst in some circumstance either a fixed term or permanent exclusion will be necessary there will be a focus in the session on the practice in school of early interventions to alleviate exclusions.

In this session we will
' Highlight good practice and the benefits of fixed term
exclusions
' Discuss the considerations that should be taken into
account before a permanent exclusion is made.
' Provide an overview of the paperwork required for the
panel
' Provide an overview of the procedure of the Discipline
Panel
' Discuss The Disciplinary Panel's role in the review
decision
